“Sharing recipes is a wonderful tradition. Combining history and photos with favorite family recipes is even better! We plan to publish a cookbook featuring some of the favorite recipes, stories and photos of early Globe-Miami residents.” She is asking anyone who falls into that group to share a few recipes that your family has traditionally prepared and served for special family, holiday and/or neighborhood events over the years.

Along with your recipe(s), please include a paragraph or two that briefly describes your connection to the Globe-Miami area, a time or place when your recipe might have been prepared, and why that dish is special to you. Try to include a bit of family or neighborhood history, or a fond memory associated with that particular dish. Please let us know if you need help with this part of the project.

If possible, please share a photograph of a time when your family, friends and/or neighbors might have shared this (or any) food. You can submit your recipe(s) by emailing  thebookbank@cableone.net or stopping in at The Book Bank, 420 W Live Oak St in Miami, AZ. Or calling Marlene at 928-473-4134 for more information.

Once all receipes have been collected, organized and typeset, the cookbook will be professionally printed and bound.

As Marlene explains, “Perhaps the best part of this project is that a portion of the proceeds from each cookbook sold will be donated to the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center & Museum to fund new and on-going projects.

This last weekend was the Grand Opening of Season 2 for the Copper Spike Excursion Railroad and Main Street Director, Kip Culver invited the Mohave Muleskinners to kick off the season in style. The Muleskinners, who were here last year for Home Tour, are a big hit in Globe. Their members dress in period clothing from the 1800′s and carry  authentic reproduction firearms. They use real gun power and crowds love talking to members, getting photo ops with the various characters and watching the Old West skits.

The one shown below involved the kidnapping of Mayor Fernando Shipley. The local contingent of the Copper Bells arrived on the scene shouting “Save our Mayor” and offered to exchange a muleskinner – toting an iron ball for the safety of the Mayor. The exchange was made, but just when the “bad” guys thought they were getting away – the women Muleskinners arrived with loaded shotguns (with gun powder of course!) and stopped them in their tracks.
