A young lady said something to me today I found interesting.  “I’m not really into politics,” she said, “but why are conservatives so angry and liberals seem to be funny or sarcastic about things, but generally in better humor?”

She got me thinking about it, and you know what, she’s right. … Continue Reading

FAIR: Reports ABC misleads viewers about Bush Tax Cuts

September 13, 2010 national issues 3 Comments

9/13/10

Excerpt from FAIR regarding the ABC World News

One of the core debates about federal tax policy concerns the expiring Bush tax cuts. A September 8 “factcheck” segment on ABC World News did more to propagate myths than to set the record straight.

The White House position is that the Bush tax cuts, which under current law expire in 2010, should be extended for the vast majority of the population. Rates would go up only for taxable income earned above $195,550. The Republican counter-argument is that increasing the taxes paid by the wealthy will actually harm small businesses. As anchor Diane Sawyer put it: “Republicans say raising taxes even on the wealthy will hurt too many small businesses, and that will stall the creation of jobs. So, who is right? We asked Jonathan Karl to check the facts.” … Continue Reading

Saying “We have did what was right for Arizona,” current Governor Jan Brewer in her one and only debate with her democratic opponent Terry Goddard is, well, embarassing.

They tried

In 2006, Maryland passed the Fair Share Health Care Law. This law required that employers, such as Wal-Mart, spend at least 8% of their payroll on employee health care. If they would not spend that percent on healthcare, they would need to put it into a state fund so that taxpayers did not have to pay the healthcare of those same employees.

A federal judge struck it down. … Continue Reading

The Legacy of Leaving Office

By: Vince Yanez

A friend of mine was reading one of my posts, where I compared Republicans to Democrats, and she asked me something I found intriguing. She said, “Have you ever noticed when a Democrat leaves office they continue doing things to help the country and the world, when a Republican leaves office, they just sort of disappear?” … Continue Reading

You Can’t Have It Both Ways

This is about the Constitution.

No, it’s not about the Tea Party carrying signs that say to Respect the Constitution and then screaming against a Democratically-Elected President. Nor is this about the GOP crying that we need to Honor the Constitution and then trying to re-interpret the 14th Amendment to get those babies born on American soil called non-citizens. Nor is this about those Patriots who scream for Freedom of Religion, unless it involves Islam, a Community Center near Ground Zero or a President who doesn’t wear his Christianity on his sleeve while he bombs innocent people into oblivion.

This is about the Donkey Party, you Democrats, who point at the tea party, the GOP, the ignorant, the haters and the racist and yell HYPOCRITES!

You are being hypocrites as well. … Continue Reading

Giving Til’ It Doesn’t Hurt

In Mort Rosenblum’s Escaping Plato’s Cave, he writes about a study where they ask Americans how much they think we contribute both in emergency relief and long-term aid to help other countries reduce poverty, develop, fight AIDS, etc. Americans guess we contribute anywhere from 10 to 15% of our GDP.   … Continue Reading
