SilverBelt hosts a memorable Chamber event

November 18, 2009 Business No Comments

Head Pressman, Kevin England and Publisher Marc Marin provided a tour of the Press room to attendeesThe Arizona Silver Belt hosted the Chamber’s monthly mixer tonight and they did a stellar job in making it a memorable occasion; going so far as designing a Special Edition just for the Chamber Mixer and firing up the presses to show us how the paper is printed. I found the whole thing fascinating since I send my paper out to get printed, and all I ever see are the computer files and then Wallah! papers!

Not so at the Silver Belt where they actually fire up 40-year old press and kick out newspapers every Tuesday. The 1968 printing press is awesome to see up close.

Ever since the Silver Belt brought on a new pressman – in July of ’08- there has been a noticeable uptick in the quality of the printing. Listening to Kevin explain the process and what his crew has to do to ensure the colors line up, it is easy to see if you weren’t on top of your game…well, you’d end up with a page that would cause readers to wonder if they were seeing double.

Andrea Marcanti is the creative talent behind the Special EditionStaffer, Andrea Marcanti, whose dynamic photograph of the 4-color press is enough to win her kudos, went on to layout the Special Edition and create a piece which is a keeper. If you weren’t at the Mixer last night, you should go by the Silver Belt and see if you can’t get your own copy. With a run of only 100 copies, these are sure to be collector items!  Hey, I even got Andrea to sign my copy!

The Presses begin to Roll…
